CENTENNIAL MUSIC REVIEW

A celebration of our local and home-grown
musical artists, spanning many generations of music. Featured
artist is Veda Zuponcic, world-renowned concert pianist and
former Auroran. Veda will share her talents along with many
other wonderful artists and groups, in solo performances,
duets, and ensembles. Freewill donation at the door (proceeds
to benefit Mesabi East music department). We are also looking
for musicians to participate in the event. Program will include
the Ferde Grofe’s original arrangement of “Rhapsody
in Blue”. We hope to find alumni musicians who are
familiar with this piece or are confident in their ability to
perform at this level. Limited rehearsal time. List of needed
instruments: 1 oboe; 2 alto saxes doubling soprano and bari
sax; 2 horns; 2 trombones; 2 percussions; 4 violins; 2
clarinets; 1 tenor sax doubling Eb clarinet; 2 trumpets; 1

Featuring Mike Lehtinen. Mike began his
undergraduate studies at the University of Colorado in Boulder,
and finished the Bachelor of Music (1984) at Oberlin
Conservatory, Oberlin, Ohio. He received the Master of Music
(1986) and Doctor of Musical Arts (1990) in Organ performance
at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York. He has
studied organ with David Craighead, Haskell Thomson, and
Russell Saunders, harpsichord with William Porter, and piano
with Mark Waite. Dr. Lehtinen is President of the Charlotte
Piano Teachers Forum, and is a past officer in the Charlotte
Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. He is a member of
the North Carolina Music Teachers Association, and served as
Chair of the 2000 and 2001 Charlotte District
Festival-Contests. Michael has been on the faculty at Southern
Park Music School in Charlotte, North Carolina, since 1995, and
serves churches in the Charlotte area as a private music
contractor. He is a frequent player with the Charlotte Symphony
Orchestra. Ice cream social immediately following in church
basement.
